For over three decades, The River’s Edge has served as a welcoming, secure, and GLBT inclusive clothing-optional sanctuary where GLBT individuals can fully embrace their freedom, connection with nature, and sense of community. We celebrate body positivity, personal freedom, and community through outdoor adventure, relaxation, and events that foster friendship and self-expression. Located about 2 hours from Atlanta, 3 hours from Charlotte, and 2.5 hours from Columbia, this gay campground is a must-visit. You’ll notice a difference almost right away. Members always tell us that The River’s Edge is more friendly, open and WELCOMING than other campgrounds. It’s hard to walk around The River’s Edge without meeting other campers, making new friends, and feeling like you’re part of a TRUE community, free from the ups and downs of society. Being here is a truly liberating experience.
OUR 30+ YEAR HISTORY
Dating back to 1994, founder Terry Drayton and his partner, Ted, opened The River’s Edge with a vision of building a safe, affirming space for the gay community. What began with a handful of campsites and two vintage trailers has grown into a vibrant destination known for its GLBT hospitality and community spirit.
After Terry’s passing in 2003, members of the community came together to preserve his vision. Spring 2013, long-term members purchased the property, ensuring The River’s Edge would remain true to its mission. Since then, the campground has continued to expand and improve the facilities, adding amenities such as a custom in-ground hot tub, a pavilion, and new permanent and rental RV sites. Upgrading the pool, remodeling the kitchen and much more!
Looking ahead, we are committed to enhancing the overall guest experience with additional amenities. Some of these include cabin rentals in our newest expansion, re-branded logo, upgraded website, online booking, and much more. Through the years what remains constant is our dedication to providing a welcoming space where the GLBT community can feel at home.
